Comment: Hi Cathy! Thanks for the PCs and lovely note! I have read both The Berry Pickers and First Lie Wins. Enjoyed both! One I recently read that I liked was Virgil Wander by Leif Enger. It's a slow book, not much conflict, but I loved the characters, especially Virgil. I had a duck when I was a kid--back when they gave them away at fairs. We kept her till she got too big and loud and then took her to a farm to be with other ducks. At least that's what they told me... My brother wanted to eat her for Thanksgiving. Thank you for your work on making primaries fair. I think it has to start with eliminating gerrymandering. Not an easy job. So sorry to hear about your husband, but how wonderful to have such good friends to live with. Happy swapping! Good to hear from you!

And agonizing about it right now, because of the weather forecast. And crowds, will people who were going to be more north decide to come down? Ack. Comment: We have just pasted Halloween, and I am unpacking from a retreat to only repack for another in a week, going to one in Adelaide to see Vicki Boutin eek! In Darwin via First Nations Lore there are 6 seasons, but most people only know 2 wet season meaning high humidity and also heat and our beautiful Dry season meaning cool mornings, sunny days and no humidity. Thanks for the extras.

Comment: I love this pc so much and the velvety rich color! That’s such a beautifully photographed series and I read an article on the creative process that went into creating that set of stamps. It’s also super cool that you have a duck stamp with a NY duck being in NY and that Cayuga is the kind of duck you have. Comment: Cathy, all I can say is "WOW!". The Northern Cardinal feather microscopy PC was a totally cool take on the swap. SO AWESOME! I also loved all the bird stamps...those were wonderful. Supposedly we have some cardinals in southern AZ, but I've never seen them while there. My favorite birds are blue jays, and I just crossed another AZ jay (the Pinon Jay) off my list. I think it's great that you've got some heritage breed chickens. I've always thought they were cool, but are hard to keep in the city. Comment: Reg can't type very well so he asked me to type his reply for him. 'Hi Bernie I love being outside, I especially love chasing butterflies and bugs, I try to catch birds as well but I'm not very good at catching any of them, my humans seem to be pleased about this. Most of the time I just chase pieces of string that one of my humans has in his hand and roll in the dirt.
Response: Bennie is interested in the string game... He also said, "my humans are none too happy when I deliver one of my great conquests... I don't understand their tastes... have a fun summer!"

Comment: Thank you for the great postcard. It was great reading that you want to take more day trips around where you live. That is great that you can be part of your dad's care team. Probably the most difficult but rewarding experience you can have. I know parts of rural upstate NY - my dad and his family were from the Canton/Potsdam area and many still live in the area. I loved spending time there when i was a kid. I grew up in the Rochester, NY area. i live in Cave Creek, which isn't too far from Fountain Hills. That's a pretty town.

Comment: Thank you so much for the great postcard! The Met is a museum I definitely want to see someday. I saw the Delacroix exhibit last summer when it was here at the Louvre. You are definitely right about seeing the evolution of his art; you could almost see his state of mind at certain points. His painting, La Liberté Guidant le Peuple, is so iconic to France that they teach about it, and him, in the language courses here. Thanx again!

Comment: Cathy--what a delightful swap from my favorite city in the US. I haven't been there since 2010 and have been thinking I need to get another trip in soon. I will be 70 next April---a fact I am trying to wrap my head around. 50 and 60 were no big deals, but 70 seems more like becoming OLD! That's why I want to get to the city pretty soon so that I am still able to put in the amount of walking it requires.I will need to give in and get the left hip replaced---arthritis is really my enemy! Both knees are totally replaced and then I'll have the hip totally replaced as well with the other one coming along fairly soon also. I'll feel like the bionic woman! Then I should be able to walk in NYC as well if not better than my daughter. She gives in to the cold faster than I do--both of our trips were in December because I was still teaching and it was either December or summer (not my favorite season anywhere--it lasts 6 months here! So, now I'm thinking April or October--I love spring and autumn and don't really have autumn here at all and spring is just a bit of a change as much is green here all winter. Anyway, thanks so much for the perfect card, the freebie postcard from Grand Central. When we were there, I just wanted to stand on a wide area on the stairs and watch the people going so fast to get to next train or to work, etc. I, too, wondered how many fascinating stories could be written about each person of groups of people. Comment: Imagine that is why chickens have been so popular over time - for the stew pot, for display, etc., its that 13 seconds, not being able to get away from us. Yes, I love birds too, they show up from time to time here in Central FL - Ibis, Egrets, hawks, eagles, in addition to wild birds. A pair of mourning doves have built nest in tree just outside my apt bldng. Hope you had a good February.

He grew up in Brooklyn and worked in Manhattan for years. He had not been back in a very long time. Comment: Nice to have a whole group of H.P fans to enjoy the books and movies together. Excited to hear J.K is going to do the prequel trilogy? Five years ago I got to go to Hogwarts (Orlando) for five days and it was great. Now that they have two separate areas and a working train I am dying to see it all over again.
Response: wow, I would love to visit. My nephew, brother and I did attend the Quidditch World Cup that was held in NYC for two years--group of college kids turned it into an intramural game. Fun, cool... Yes, look forward to the prequel!

Comment: Your journal deserves much more than one heart, it is above and beyond what I would have ever expected for this type of swap!! I cannot wait to get to sit down and actually read it all!! I am so sorry that your October ended with such destruction from hurricane Sandy. :( I am from upstate NY and seeing a hurricane hit NY/NJ is just mind blowing to me. Snowstorms I remember well but never do I remember having such a destructive storm hitting the north east like that. :(
